Run For Local Office and Make a Difference in Janesville

In April 2026, voters will head to the polls to elect new community representatives for non-partisan, volunteer seats on the Janesville City Council, the Janesville School Board and the Rock County Board of Supervisors.

While next spring seems far away, the first day candidates can circulate nomination papers is to be on the April ballot is December 1, 2025. So, fall is the time to prepare.

Serving on city council, school board or county board means being a community leader. Strong leaders mean strong communities. In your businesses and organizations, you lead every day. To make a lasting impact on our community:

  • Consider running for local office; or
  • Identifying individuals in your organization who could be good candidates.

Visit our Local Elections webpage to explore what it means to serve in these roles. Also review what seats are up for election, the length of terms and where to get reliable information about running for a particular office.
